Responsibilities:

  • Identify and resolve problems in experimental design and outcomes. 
  • Provide clear manufacturing instructions for newly developed products. Transition from bench to manufacturing.  
  • Develop QC specifications and technical support to the manufacturing team for products including details of performance, analytical testing, stability and packaging. 
  • Prepare technical reports, product summaries, protocols and SOPs, quantitative analyses and journal publications, where appropriate. 
  • Presentation to a wider audience may be necessary which includes attendance at conferences to communicate available products, research data generated and acquire new product and collaboration leads.  
  • Provide technical assistance and marketing support to the commercial operations selling raw materials, services and other cell culture related products. 
  • Provide technical assistance to customer support and directly to customers for reagents, antibodies, and immunoassay kits. 
  • Comply with all safety and quality regulations. 
  • Routine maintenance and troubleshooting of scientific equipment. 
  • May be required to supervise junior members of staff. 
  • May be required to perform other duties as required/assigned.

Experience and Skills:

PhD level scientist with a strong background in cell culture and immunoassays, protein chemistry and/or protein conjugations. Have a natural inclination toward solving technical problems and a passion for product development. Excellent oral and written communication skills required.  

Demonstrated experience in mammalian cell culture, particularly with primary cell lines and stem cells. In vivo animal model experience is a plus. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary groups in a fast-paced work environment. Able to master complex technical processes with a problem-solving skill mindset. 

Communicates well in oral and written format. Capable to generate reports, white papers and technical marketing and regulatory pieces. An aptitude for working well with others. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently. Task-oriented, organized and driven to produce results with aggressive timelines. Comfortable with learning new areas of GMP manufacturing in the cell therapy industry. Detail-oriented; fast learner; adaptable. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in cell biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioengineering or a related discipline 
  • 1-3 years’ research and relevant development experience working with at least two of these subjects: cell culture of cell lines and human primary cells, cryopreservation, proteins/antibodies, immune-bioassays and 3D scaffolds.

The Process Development Scientist (PDS) at Akron is responsible for the development activities in preparation for and analysis of products (ancillary materials and others) used in cell /gene/tissue products manufacturing in clinical trials and commercial stage.  The PDS will also engage in technology transfer of methods and processes, from research to GMP providing assistance and technical support both in-house to manufacturing teams in process validations and to customers within Akron’s facilities. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

Design and execute experiments to define process conditions, minimize process variability and optimize process parameters as well as identify critical process parameters 

  • Plan and execute the technology transfer of protocols as well as validation protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ) for analytical methods, manufacturing and processing equipment. 
  • Perform hands-on processing of biological products using a variety of cell and protein bioprocessing equipment. 
  • Develop rework processes for existing and for new development projects  
  • Develop scale-down process trains for existing and development products, and use these to validate operational parameters  
  • Define and develop process technologies for manufacturing products (ancillary materials, scaffolds and others), and then transfer to GMP production.  
  • Current knowledge of guidance documents and other helpful literature references to understand the current “state of the art” for cell/tissue manufacturing processes and unit operations 
  • Support the Manufacturing department by providing analytical troubleshooting services. 
  • Develop, qualify, and transfer new assays to the quality control department. 
  • Support all viral inactivation and clearance studies. Support strategic projects by purifying proteins for characterization. 
  • Develop formulations for proteins and other products. 
  • Support research projects  

 Experience and skills:

A strong background in process and scale up, protein chemistry and/or protein conjugations, scaffolds and /or biomaterials. Have a natural inclination toward solving technical problems and a passion for product development. Excellent oral and written communication skills required.  

Experience with analytical methods development, technology transfer, and validation desirable. Comfortable learning new areas of GMP manufacturing in the cell therapy industry. Detail-oriented. 

Additional requirements include ability to work both independently and as part of a team demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Task-oriented, organized and driven to produce results with aggressive timelines. Fast learner; adaptable. 

Minimum qualifications:

  • MSc. in Bioengineering or a closely related field
  • A minimum of two years related experience in cGMP operations and working in controlled therapeutic manufacturing environments is preferred.

The Sales/Customer Service Coordinator is responsible for providing excellent customer service and sales support by meeting the needs of customers and the Sales Department. They act as the central coordinating person for a diversified set of processes that underpin sales effectiveness.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Deals directly with customers and distributors either by phone, fax, or e-mail.
  • Assist Executive Sales Director with day-to-day tasks and special projects.
  • Assist in developing new business, grow existing business, and troubleshooting customer problems.
  • Provide administrative and analytical support to Sales Team and act as a liaison between sales and other internal departments, customers, and vendors.
  • Actively participates in meeting sales goals, profit margins, and market share targets established by Executive Sales Director/CEO.
  • Generate demand and maximize product awareness by working with and providing education and information to customers.
  • Network and interface with internal colleagues to share information and best practices while remaining actively involved in industry/customer organizations that impact business.
  • Coordinating and organizing conferences and tradeshows for Sales Team.
  • Upload customer information to CRM daily.
  • Report or suggest changes for efficiency improvements.
  • Adhere to department and company policies and SOP’s.
  • Demonstrate highly effective interpersonal skills to handle various interactions.
  • General administrative duties (i.e. answering phones, filing customer documents, maintaining databases.)
  • Submit weekly activity reports to Executive Sales Director

The Customer Service Associate will meet the needs of customers in an efficient and friendly manner. They will directly communicate with customers and distributors on a daily basis. An Associate will also assist in the procurement/purchasing process, along with other general administrative duties.

  • Interacts with Sales and Shipping and Receiving to facilitate order processing and fulfillment by preparing Invoices/Packing Slips.
  • Assists with product procurement/purchasing and preparing Purchase Orders.
  • Coordinating and organizing materials for sales team, conferences and trade shows.
  • Maintain product and pricing information to website.
  • Report or suggest changes for efficiency improvement.
  • Adhere to department and company procedures.
  • Demonstrate highly effective interpersonal skills to handle various interactions.
  • General administrative duties (e.g. answering phones, filing customer documents, maintaining CRM).
