Transferrin, Bovine HOLOTransferrin is an important component in growth media. It is a glycoprotein, but also known more specifically as an iron-storage protein found in mammalian serum (i.e. a blood plasma protein). Transferrin receptors on the cell surface of actively growing cells bind transferrin for iron transport to and from cells. |

Mammalian cell culture in a serum-free medium requires an iron transporter such as transferrin. When iron-free, transferrin is referred to as APO-transferrin, while it is called HOLO transferrin when iron-rich. Bovine Transferrin APO is a cost efficient iron-saturated transferrin. Our product is sterile filtered through 0.2 um prior to lyophilization. Bovine Transferrin is a blood plasma iron binding protein that has the capacity to specifically bind two ferric (Fe3+) ions to form a reddish brown complex. The product is purified from bovine plasma using Akron's chromatographic process. The final product is a lyophilized powder.
